Channeling Samsung’s premium NX image quality, the NX1000, NX210 and NX20 cameras all feature a stunning design and a professional-grade 20.3 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor. Ensuring the cameras benefit from Samsung’s ecosystem of imaging products, they are also compatible with Samsung’s unique i-Function 2.0 system. This innovative system enables users to control camera settings using the lens only, without having to take focus off the subject. New i-Function features include a digital crop and zoom, which allows users to focus on the most important parts of an image and crop away distracting background elements, plus the ability to add custom functions.
Shoot SMART with Samsung NX Further extending the benefits of Samsung’s SMART features, the NX20, NX210 and NX1000 are compatible with Samsung’s Remote Viewfinder app, which when loaded from Google Play (formerly the Android Marketplace) onto a supported GALAXY smartphone or tablet, allows users to control settings and even take the picture from up to 30 feet away. With Samsung’s MobileLink app, users can easily transfer and display images on Samsung smartphones, tablets, or Smart TVs – turning a variety of popular devices into instant photo frames.
In addition, AllShare and the TV Link application let the new NX models connect directly to a DLNA-compatible TV to show off those amazing images on the big screen, while PC Backup can store photos on a PC without fumbling with cables.
All-new, Extremely Approachable: The NX1000 The Samsung NX1000 features a large, bright 3.0-inch LCD screen for composing images and 1080p HD video, and technologies like Smart Auto 2.0 take the guess work out of photo-taking. A dedicated Smart Link Hot Key on the top of the camera makes sharing photos via Wi-Fi as easy as pressing a button for instant sharing.
Versatile and Powerful: The NX210 Championing the successes of its predecessor, the NX200, Samsung’s NX210 camera incorporates a brilliant, 3.0-inch AMOLED screen for viewing and composing in any light – indoors or out, as well as an all-metal premium-quality body for added durability.
The new NX210 also boasts high speed capture with a 1/8000 shutter and continuous shooting capabilities up to 8 frames per second, ensuring no moment is missed. With features like Smart Panel, the NX210 brings versatility to the forefront and empowers users to push their photographic limits.

At a fraction of the size and weight of DSLR cameras, the NX20 offers comfortable ergonomics and a convenient 3.0-inch swivel Super AMOLED screen for composing in a variety of conditions and at any angle. Additionally, the NX20 incorporates an SVGA Electronic Viewfinder (EVF) for framing and composing images. Fitting for more advanced users, the NX20 touts a lightning-quick shutter speed, allowing users to capture images at up to 1/8000 of a second. Continuous shooting also adds to the camera’s photo prowess, as the NX20 can shoot up to 8 frames per second. Lastly, an electronic level feature helps compose images and allows users to perfectly center and adjust a tripod-mounted or handheld shot.
Creative Control at Your Fingertips All three NX models feature Samsung’s ten exclusive Smart Filters and a new Selective Color function, which allows users to isolate a single color in an image for a dramatic effect. Additionally, the NX20, NX210 and NX1000 make it simple to capture an entire scene with the innovative Panorama and 3D Panorama features creating immersive shots of landscapes and scenery.

Press Release: Share life in perfect detail with the NX1000, NX20 and NX210 – the world’s first SMART compact system cameras with built-in Wi-Fi connectivity
BEIJING, China – April 19, 2012 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies is breaking new ground with its award-winning NX series with three new compact system cameras (CSC) that pioneer built-in Wi-Fi connectivity: the NX1000, NX210 and NX20. Now professional quality images can be easily captured, shared and stored straight from your camera – wherever you are in the world. The innovative additions to Samsung’s NX range represent the future in CSC technology: SMART cameras with in-built Wi-Fi technology that allow users to connect to wireless networks without any additional cards or devices. Full Wi-Fi connectivity is complemented by an impressive range of features, continuing the heritage of innovation that the NX series has been consistently recognized for since the launch of the NX10 in 2010.
As standard, all three NX models feature a 20.3 Megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, developed in-house by Samsung to give high quality images in rich color and detail. They are also fully compatible with the NX series’ unique i-Function system, enabling users to control parameters using the lens itself, adjusting the image without ever having to move off target. With Samsung’s range of nine lenses and professional standard accessories, the NX eco-system ensures that all imaging ambitions can be realised, whatever the user’s photographic speciality or interest.
Enhancing Samsung’s 2012 SMART CAMERA ecosystem, these latest additions to the NX range have been designed to satisfy the ambitions of users of all abilities, whether an experienced professional or someone just looking to trade-up from their point-and-shoot.
The NX1000 is highly portable and its eye-catching compact design makes it as useable as it is attractive. Available in stunning White, classic Black or eye-catching Pink it houses a feature-rich range of specs, with technology such as Smart Auto 2.0 and the Smart Link Hot Key, making it simpler than ever to shoot and share great images instantly.
The NX210 follows the NX’s design heritage, with a premium metallic finish. Like its predecessor the NX200, the NX210 also offers a 3.0” AMOLED display for viewing images and Full HD movies in brilliant resolution. With easy access to Wi-Fi functions, the NX210 allows quick sharing with friends and family, whilst with Samsung Mobile Link users can show off their best images on phones and tablets, or on the big screen with TV Link connecting the NX210 wirelessly to internet-enabled TVs.
The NX20 is the perfect match for enthusiast amateur or professional photographers looking for a highly portable camera that gives the professional look and feel of a DSLR but at a fraction of the size and weight, with the addition of an ergonomic grip to fit comfortably into the hand. Delivering impressive speed with its 1/8000s Fast Shutter, breath-taking images are shown on its clear 3.0” clear AMOLED swivel display, increasing visibility by approximately 20%. The NX20 also incorporates a range of functions and manual controls in order to deliver pro-standard pictures every time, including SVGA EVF so users can frame images like a professional. With Samsung’s latest SMART features, users can share pictures at the touch of a button, uploading to social networks including Facebook and Picasa, or emailing them to friends and family – all straight from their new NX camera. The cameras also offer further options for capturing and displaying images via other devices, including the ability to link to a Samsung smartphone and use as a remote viewfinder, and – with the Samsung Mobile Link function – to display images on devices such as tablets or internet-enabled TV. Pictures shared on the spur of the moment are no longer restricted to simply shooting and sending – with the creative features of the new NX cameras, Facebook pictures can be artistic without ever going near a computer. The ten Smart Filters and added Selective Color function, for example, mean that users can adjust the look and feel of shots as they take them. In addition, all three cameras also feature Panorama and 3D Panorama, allowing the whole story to be told in one complete picture. With the Smart Panel featured on all the new models, settings and features can be easily accessed and applied, making creative photography easier than ever.
Mr. Myoung Sup Han, Senior Vice President and Head of the Digital Imaging Business, Samsung Electronics, commented: “The three new additions to the NX range mark an evolution in Samsung’s SMART CAMERA offering, demonstrating our understanding that digital imaging is about sharing the best moments with family and friends, and not only about taking great pictures. Samsung is paving the way, introducing the world’s first SMART Compact-System-Cameras for professional standard images that are worth sharing.”
“With the inclusion of in-built Wi-Fi connectivity, our customers can now share pictures and videos straight from their NX camera. More importantly, however, the NX camera’s wireless connectivity does not mean sacrificing fantastic image quality – you can now have the best of both at your fingertips. This dedication to innovation will make Samsung a leader in the SMART CAMERA market.”

Richard Franiec offers clip-on cable-release mount for Samsung NX200
From dpreview.com
Accessory maker Richard Franiec has announced a clip-on cable-release mount for the Samsung NX200. The NX200 has no infrared or USB cable release option, so Franiec has created an arm that extends from the hot shoe to the shutter button and adds a thread to screw in a traditional mechanical cable release. The mount, made from the engineering polymer Delrin, will cost $19.95. Press Announcement Addressing the discontent of NX200 users who would want to expand the control of shutter release beyond finger press or reliance on self timer, this adapter is designed to do just that.
Precision machined from black Delrin, the adapter uses hot shoe as a stable anchor for perfectly positioned cable release point over the shutter button. Profile of the adapter does not interfere with on/off lever or any other vital camera controls.
Focus acquisition by half press shutter via cable release is very well controlled.
The adapter will become available by end of April 2012 for the price of $19.95.
Note: cable release is not included as this is a subject of user personal preference (length, brand, looks or any specific factors). All standard cables will fit the adapter, even old, collecting the dust ones.”

Press Release: The new WB850F, WB150F, and ST200F make shooting, sharing and saving amazing quality pictures easier than ever
Las Vegas – Jan 9, 2012 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, announced today the launch of a new range of Wi-Fi enabled travel zoom cameras. The WB850F, WB150F, and ST200F cameras enhance the advanced optical zoom and image quality that the WB line of cameras are known for, with Wi-Fi capability to facilitate sharing and saving images – wherever users are in the world. Housed in compact, light and durable bodies, the new zoom series from Samsung make the perfect travel companions.
Samsung’s innovative new SMART Wi-Fi technology aims to change the way consumers take pictures, share and store them. With the new Samsung SMART long-zoom cameras, users no longer have to worry about unearthing a tangle of cables to transfer their images over to their hard drive by using the Auto Backup function. They can also take advantage of integrated free storage space from Samsung’s AllShare Play and Microsoft® Sky Drive® to make their photo accessible anywhere.
Of course, one of the best parts of discovering new places and cultures is sharing experiences with friends and family back home. With the Wi-Fi capability of the new Samsung SMART long-zoom cameras, sharing is quicker and easier than ever. From any Wi-Fi hotspot, users can email photos or share them on social networks such as Facebook and Picasa or post videos to YouTube in a few simple steps. The WB850F also uses GPS features and Live Landmark to enhance the user’s journeys, enabling them to download maps and find out information on nearby locations with the touch of a button. The camera’s Digital Compass can also give users their location and tell them how far they are from certain locations, while the MapView function allows users to download maps and use their camera to help explore new cities. For those that don’t need Wi-Fi, the WB150 and ST200 will also be available as versions of the cameras without this feature.
Similar to their WB predecessors, the WB850F, WB150F and ST200F make it easy to capture incredible detail through their zoom lenses, making it simple to get up-close shots that were once out of reach. The WB850F features a 21x optical zoom – Samsung’s best yet. The WB150F features an impressive 18x optical super zoom and the ST200F includes a 10x optical zoom lens. In order to capture the detail at its best, all travel zoom models feature upwards of 12 Megapixel sensors (16.2 Megapixels on the WB850F and 14.2 Megapixels on the WB150F). The WB850F also features pioneering BSI CMOS sensor technology to reduce image noise and distortion, even in low light conditions. This crystal-clear detail can then be experienced in all its clarity on the 3.0” VGA AMOLED screen featured on both models.
“Taking photographs and sharing them with friends and family is one of the most enjoyable aspects of travelling,” said Mr. Myoung Sup Han, senior vice president and head of the digital imaging business at Samsung Electronics. “It’s about more than simply capturing memories – it’s an integral part of the experience itself. Listening to our customers, we discovered that being able to conserve memory and share images instantly was what was missing from the high-quality cameras that they trust. With this in mind, we added ground-breaking Wi-Fi functions to our travel zoom series, building on the brilliant image quality that high-quality sensors and zoom lenses provide with the ability to store and share like never before.” Whether filming at the carnival in Rio de Janeiro or from a vantage point atop the world’s highest buildings, Samsung travel zoom cameras mean users can share their video in HD. The WB850F captures awesome detail in 1080/30p Full HD and 1080/60i for spectacular scenery shots. The WB150F and ST200F feature fantastic 720/30p HD recording, ensuring that once-in-a-lifetime experiences are captured in the same color and vibrancy that existed in real life. With Motion Photo, users can make one element of a normal photograph come to life and keep moving while the rest of the frame stays still, such as a friend walking through a crowd of what appear to be statues or a solitary tree bending in the breeze. And with the ST200F, instant in-camera editing along with Wi-Fi allow users to share images immediately without ever needing a computer. With the new travel zoom cameras, it’s up to the user how to get the best shot. On the WB850F and WB150F, one can explore their own photographic skills with the Full Manual Control setting, also taking advantage of the optical image stabilization (OIS) (available on all models – WB850F, WB150F and ST200F). Alternatively, the Smart Auto setting, available on all the new models, identifies and automatically selects the most appropriate of its scene modes to provide users with the best possible result every time. From a fireworks display to a dimly-lit party, scene detection technology identifies the shooting conditions and automatically tailors the settings to help achieve standout results. Live Panorama, featured on the WB850F, WB150F and ST200F, allows consumers to capture even more of the action, facilitating wide panoramic shots which don’t miss any of the detail, from sprawling mountain peaks through to large groups of friends. The function allows the easy capture of large scenes by simply holding down the shutter button and sweeping the camera across. Users can even preview the whole scene they’ve just captured via the LCD screen. With Split Shot, camera users can divide the screen into three separate shots and create up to three different photographs by simply blending them together to create a whole new view of their travels. Using Magic Frame they can also position their target in the middle of a fun background – either choose from one of the many pre-designed backgrounds like movie billboards or posters or erase part of an existing picture to get even more creative! Or use the Picture-in-Picture feature to insert a photo – whether an eye-catching monument or personal portrait into another image or video so users can combine their favorite shots to make a memorable collage. Finally, users can also bend, stretch, and warp pictures of friends and family for big laughs — with the Funny Face feature. Simply press the 5-direction key to enlarge heads or noses, or create hilarious distortions. When they move the camera, Face Tracking preserves the funny looks just the way they want them.

This is our standard studio scene comparison shot taken from exactly the same tripod position. Lighting: daylight simulation, >98% CRI. Crops are 100%. Ambient temperature was approximately 22°C (~72°F).
JPEGs are shot at default parameters and raw files are converted using Adobe Camera RAW. Because Adobe Camera Raw applies different levels of sharpening to different cameras we use the following workflow for these conversions:
Note: After identifying an issue with image softness which affected images shot at a narrow range of shutter speeds, we have re-shot, and replaced our ISO 100-800 (inclusive) raw and JPEG samples. Our ISO 100-800 samples were reshot using a neutral-density filter over our studio light, reducing the luminance of our test scene, and allowing us to use longer shutter speeds. This has produced slightly sharper results in the ISO 100-800 range. Our previous samples shot at ISO 1600 and above were unaffected by the issue and have not been replaced.

Samsung has completely refreshed its NX series with a range of Wi-Fi-connected cameras, the NX20, NX210 and NX1000. The NX20 and NX210 replace the NX10 and NX200, while the NX1000 broadens the range with a less expensive, entry-level option. All three cameras are built around the company’s 20MP sensor, can shoot at up to 8fps and capture Full HD 1080p24 movies. The NX20 features a high-res SVGA electronic viewfinder and swivel, ‘Clear’ AMOLED screen with no air gap between the display panel and the protective glass, for improved reflection resistance. The NX210 has the same (non-Clear) AMOLED screen as its predecessor, while the NX1000 has a VGA display.

Samsung has refused to confirm reports that it is working on an Android-based camera, only to say it is looking at the idea. The non-denial, which says ‘it is something we are monitoring,’ comes in response to reports from tech website Engadget that it is considering an ‘open’ camera operating system. However, while the site goes on to speculate that Android makes sense, based on its parent company’s use of the OS on its smartphones, we think there are other reasons for Samsung to use Android.

Pre-CES: Samsung has given more details about the capabilities of its ‘SMART Camera’ range of Wi-Fi enabled compacts and camcorders. The range includes the WB850F, WB150F and ST200F compacts announced today, as well as the DV300F announced on Jan 2nd. All can be used with Samsung’s Remote Viewfinder app on Android smartphones (an iOS version is due later in 2012). All the cameras can also automatically backup their images and video to your home PC when you’re within Wi-Fi range, and feature ‘log-in’ browsers for connecting to public networks. The SMART Cameras also allow easy uploading to social networks, Samsung’s AllShare Play or Microsoft’s SkyDrive cloud services.

Panasonic, Samsung, SanDisk, Sony and Toshiba have announced they are working on a ‘security solution’ for the Secure Digital format – a move more about transferring paid-for content onto mobile devices than about photography. The system will associate cards with content buyers, so that rights-owners feel they can allow those buyers to move copyrighted Blu-Ray and downloaded HD content onto the cards. Or, in marketing speak: ‘enables the effortless consumption of online and offline content across multiple device platforms.’
UPDATE: Following the provision of Beta raw support from Adobe, we’ve updated our previously published studio samples from the Samsung NX200 to include Raw files. Also, we’ve recently got our hands on Samsung’s new NX 60mm F2.8 Macro ED OIS SSA and we’ve taken the opportunity to replace our existing samples with a completely new set, taken on the newer lens. In future, the 60mm macro will become our standard studio lens for the Samsung NX system.
Just posted: our JPEG studio test samples from the Samsung NX200. In preparation for our forthcoming review of the NX200, we have shot our standard studio test scene. To allow easy comparison with its peers, we have now added these shots to our comparison tool, found in our existing reviews. The NX200 can now be selected from the pull-down list within any review or our standalone comparison tool. Only JPEG comparison is available at the moment, as we are waiting on ACR Raw support for the camera.
Google and Samsung have announced the Galaxy Nexus smartphone – the first to use the latest version of the Android operating system. Android 4.0 (also known as Ice Cream Sandwich) features a series of enhancements for photographers, including support for what the companies are claiming is a ‘zero shutter lag exposure.’ The camera app included in the software also supports digitally stabilized zoom, single-motion panorama shooting and the ability to take HD snapshots as video is being shot. Ice Cream Sandwich also features a redesigned album layout and a photo editor, allowing cropping, rotation and simple image corrections. The Galaxy Nexus handset has a 1280×720 screen and 5MP camera capable of using Android 4.0′s ‘zero shutter lag’ feature.
